Army arrests Soldier, Corporal Aminu Who Beat Phone Repairer To Death In Adamawa

The Nigerian Army has arrested Lance Corporal Ahmed Aminu linked to the killing of a phone repairer, Alkasim Ibrahim, at Dong village in Mayo Belwa, Adamawa State.
The Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 23 Brigade in Yola, Lieutenant Adebayo Samuel Adewumi, said in a statement on Saturday, July 5, 2025 that the soldier has already been arrested.
He added that the incident was tragic and a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine all the facts.
“The Nigerian Army is aware of a video in circulation alleging that a soldier harassed and extorted money from motorists at the checkpoint on the Ngwom – Mafa Road.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to clearly state that the officer in the video is not the alleged perpetrator of the incident.”
“The Department has launched a full investigation to determine the overall circumstances of the tragic incident,” the statement said.
Lt. Adewumi also said the Army remains resolute in its commitment to enforcing core values of professionalism, discipline, respect for human rights and upholding the rule of law.
He warned against any misconduct of its officers and men with zero tolerance.
Guaranteeing the public on total transparency and accountability, Lt. Adewumi promised that the findings of the ongoing investigation would be made known to the members of the public after completion.
The Army also urged the citizens “to remain calm, not to believe in the false information and not to circulate it, and to stay committed to the implementation of public order.”
