Landmine kills four passengers, 10 others wounded in Borno highway – police

At least four persons were killed and 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a pick-up van stepped on an improvised explosive device along the Maiduguri-Damboa highway in Borno State on Wednesday, police said.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 12:30 pm in Komala village near Gidan Kajji in Konduga local government area of Borno state on Wednesday.
According to a vigilante’s source, the landmines buried on the highway led to the killing of at least 4 passengers and the injury of others.
“We lost four people to the sad incident that occurred hours ago. The IED was suspected to have been buried by the terrorists to wreak havoc on innocent travellers.
Reacted to the development, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Police Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command confirmed that one Isuzu pickup vehicle with registration number DAM 156 XA (Borno), conveying passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri, on reaching Komala Village, Konduga Local Government Area, the vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
As a result of the explosion, four (4) persons lost their lives, while ten (10) others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The corpses of the deceased and the injured victims have been evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, for autopsy and medical treatment respectively.
Normalcy has been restored, Joint security team have been drafted to the scene to prevent further attacks, while efforts are ongoing by Police EOD-CBRN to probe the scene .
