Police, Borno community meets over rising insecurity

The Nigeria police force on Monday reiterated that strong synergies and community-based approaches would arrest the prevailing security threats in the state.
The event which held in Maiduguri at the force state headquarter brought together human rights group, local security outfits, property owners, road transport union, GSM dealers, women and youth groups among others.
While delivering his keynote address, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 15 Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, said the meeting aims to strengthen collaboration and discuss community-based approaches to curtailing security threats in the state
He said the engagement is in line with the strategic vision of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to achieve a 40% reduction in crime in 2025, across the Thirty-Six States and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said “this forum is not just another meeting. It provides a platform for: Sharing field experiences in security management within the state, Discussing the distinct challenges faced by various stakeholders, Figuring out immediate and long-term needs for enhancing security, and Strengthening collaboration and trust between communities and the police”
The AIG noted that the police is poised to listening to their opinion and suggestion on matters relating to security
“We are here to listen, to learn, and to forge sustainable partnerships that will contribute to enhancing the security of Borno State.
“We are all witnesses to the considerable progress made in counter-insurgency efforts and the restoration of civil authority in various communities. Yet, we must remain mindful of, and vigilant against lingering threats,”
While highlighting the roles of the participants, he said “each of you has a vital role to play in this effort: For the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF): Your grassroots intelligence and vigilance are essential to our community policing framework
“The Road Transport Unions: Your insight into passenger and vehicle movement are crucial for early detection of suspicious activities. GSM Sellers Associations: Your cooperation in dealing with issues about stolen phones, laptops and device tracking continues to aid investigations significantly
The participants expressed optism about the meeting, while stating their willingness to engage in meaningful conversation
