CSOs hails Zulum for appointing member as DG, Great Green Wall

The Borno state chapter of the Network of Civil Society Organizations have commended the State Governor, Babagana Zulum for appointing one of it’s member, Usman Aliyu, as pioneer Director General of the Borno State Agency for Great Green Wall.
The group gave the commendation while on a congratulatory visit to DG’s office in Maiduguri on Monday
Leading the deligation, the Executive Director of the Network of Civil Society Organisation in the state, Bulama Abiso described Aliyu as a competent member of the civil society community, while stating that his appointment reflects the Governor’s recognition of grassroots stakeholders in climate governance.
Abiso emphasized the network’s readiness to collaborate with the agency, particularly in the areas of climate change mitigation, community-based afforestation, and the promotion of smart agricultural practices.
According to him, civil society organizations in the state have proven reach and community trust to support the Agency’s mandate effectively.

Responding, the Director General, Amb. Usman Aliyu, described the visit as a homecoming, while expressing gratitude to the Organisation for the gesture.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serve as a worthy ambassador of the network within the government structure and to champion initiatives that enhance environmental sustainability and community resilience
Highlighting the importance of grassroots action, the DG called on the organisation to submit a community-based proposal on tree planting for possible joint implementation, emphasizing the need for practical and inclusive approaches to environmental protection.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Agency’s afforestation nursery beds and the smart agriculture demonstration farm, where members of the delegation witnessed ongoing innovative practices aimed at combating desertification and promoting food security.
