ISWAP attacks military base in Yobe, soldiers feared dead
Buni Yadi, a some of 65km from Damaturu, the state capital, is the hometown of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state.
Many soldiers feared dead and several others wounded when Islamic State West Africa Province fighters(ISWAP) attacked military base in Gujba local government area of Yobe State on Saturday, local sources said.
This is coming less than 48 hours after the North East Governors Forum met in the Yobe state capital, Damaturu to discuss issues affecting the region.
Our Correspondent gathered that the ISWAP fighters stormed and attacks the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing undisclosed soldiers and carted away caches of arms and ammunition.
According to an impeccable source, said the attackers carted away ammunition and destroying several other operational equipment.
He said , “we lost some soldiers and others wounded, I can’t ascertain the casualties figure from both sides during the fierce battle that last for hours. But some soldiers paid the supreme price,”
In the early hour, the Nigeria army headquarters confirmed the attack via its verified Facebook page on Saturday morning.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI currently in a fierce battle against ISWAP attack at Buni Gari, Yobe State. Details later,” it stated.
However, the military is yet to give further details on the casualties as at the time of filing this report.
Two weeks ago, Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military location in the Chalie area, Buni Yadi, killing 3 soldiers.
