EndBadGovt: Kano govt pledges full implementation of protest report
Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to fully implement the recommendations of the Committee of Inquiry regarding the End Bad Governance Protest that took place on August 1, 2024.
The governor made this commitment while receiving the committee’s report from its chairman, Justice Lawan Wada (rtd.), during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at Government House.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that a white paper would be released to identify those responsible for sponsoring and carrying out the violent protest.
The report revealed that 10 people lost their lives, while seven others sustained critical injuries.
It also estimated that public and private properties worth over N11 billion were destroyed.
Governor Yusuf stressed that his administration allowed the committee full autonomy throughout its six-month-long investigation, ensuring there was no interference.
He assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the report’s findings to deter future acts of violence and destruction in the state.
The governor commended the committee for their thorough work and encouraged them to remain available for future assignments if needed.
Justice Wada noted that the committee visited all affected areas and consulted stakeholders to compile a detailed account of the protest’s impact.
