Residents, CSO reacts as Buni directs BioRTC team for kidney disease research
The residents of Bade Local Government Area in Yobe State, have commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s efforts in addressing the rising cases of kidney failure in the area as he directed the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) to conduct research on the causes of kidney disease in the region.
The commendation was made during an interaction with the Information Officer of Yobe State University, Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani.
Speaking during the interaction, the Chairman of Bade Emirate Youth Initiative for Good Governance (BEYIGOG), Mohammed Bashir Ranccass, disclosed that people of Bade Emirate and more particularly those residing in Gashua have been battling with the kidney disease in the area for many years.
“We have been battling with the cases of kidney failure in this town for many years, the menace has killed many people. This has made us organize a peaceful protest against incessant food adulteration in the area. We even took some people to the court of law that are responsible for preparing food for adulteration”. He said.
Mr. Ranccass, while appreciating the efforts of the Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, he urged the residents of Gashua and other parts of the Local Government Area to give their total support to Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) carrying out their research.
He then commended the efforts of the Special Adviser on Science, Research and Innovation, Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina for the commitment he has shown on the task given to him by his boss, Hon. Mai Mala Buni.
One of the residents, Sa’idu T. Gaji, said the intervention of the Yobe State Government is timely as the case of kidney failure in this town has killed many people. “We have reached a point where some people are now stigmatising our foods and water. We really need a lasting solution”. He added.
Another lady who sought anonymity, said many people are happy with the research and called on the community to give their total support in terms of prayers and compliance.
Recall that when the BioRTC Team arrived Gashua, the Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Hon. Babagana Ibrahim Yurema has lamented that the ancient town is suffering from the tragedy of chronic kidney disease leading to many deaths in the community, adding that the research to uncover the causes is crucial and timely.
Hon. Yurema said the Emir of Bade, His Royal Highness, Alh. Umar Abubakar Suleiman, has extended his appreciation to the Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni for sending the research team to Gashua, adding that their doors are open for support in carrying out the research.
