Bauchi Governor Launches Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign, Establishes New Ministry
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially launched the 2025 Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign.
The launching ceremony took place in Itas, Itas Gadau Local Government Area, on Monday.
During the launch, Governor Mohammed announced the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Livestock Development.
This new ministry will play a crucial role in addressing the challenges faced by herders and farmers while driving economic growth through improved livestock production.
“This initiative underscores my administration’s commitment to the agricultural sector, particularly livestock, which is vital to the state’s economy,” Governor Mohammed stated.
He emphasised the importance of utilising both human and animal resources to maximise food production and expressed gratitude for the support of traditional institutions, religious leaders, and security agencies in maintaining peace, a crucial factor for sustainable agricultural activities.
“I encourage the public to actively engage in farming and livestock production as a means to achieve economic prosperity,” Governor Mohammed urged.
In collaboration with donor partners and non-governmental organisations, the state government plans to establish semi-earth dams and other infrastructure projects to further support livestock development.
Governor Mohammed directed local government chairmen to ensure the effective implementation of the vaccination campaign across the state to prevent diseases and protect livestock health.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruk II, and the State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf Tilde. Both commended Governor Mohammed’s efforts in supporting all sections of society, particularly the farming and herding communities.
