Not fewer than 12 persons, comprising ten men, and two females, lost their lives in a road crash on Tuesday, along the Bayamari-Geidam Road in Yobe State.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yobe State Sector Command, Livinus Yilzoom, disclosed this in a press release made available to newsmen in Damaturu.
According to him, the crash occurred at a10:00 pm:00pm at KM 20, Kyalluri Village, along the Bayamari-Geidam Road.
He explained that the crash involved a stationary HOWO Truck with the registration number: MAG-831-ZR belonging to DAN NENE Construction Company and a Shminibusi bus with the registration number: BAU-124-YF which ran into the truck and caught fire, thereby burning the 12 occupants of the bus beyond recognition.
Mr. Yilzoom said preliminary investigation revealed that road obstruction by the HOWO Truck was the immediate cause while excessive speed and overloading by the Sharon’s driver were the remote causes of the crash.
He admonished motorists to avoid night travels because of the danger of poor visibility which is further compounded by the present lazy harmattan weather.
He also called on motorists to obey road traffic rules and regulations at all times to forestall future occurrences.
Commander Yilzoom extends the condolences of the corps marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, to the bereaved families.
