Alhassan Emerges as NUJ National President

Alhassan Yahaya, from Gombe State, has won the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

In a well-contested poll that took place on Thursday during the ongoing 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference in Owerri, Imo State, Alhassan defeated his combined opponent with a 300-point score margin.

In a total vote of 569, Alhassan Yahaya got 436; the second runner-up, Dele Atumbi, got 97 votes, while Muhammed Garba, who clung to 3rd place, got 36 votes in total.

Prior to the election, Alhassan served as the Deputy National President of the NUJ.

Meanwhile, in other categories, some contestants, including the Deputy National President, Comrade Abimbola Oyetunde, General Manager Radio Nigeria Bronze FM Edo State, and former BOT of the union, were elected unopposed.Â

Also, National Officers of the Union were unopposed, including the National Treasurer, Comrade Victor Ndukwe, who was the former Abia State Council Chairman.
