No fewer than 100 people confirmed dead, about 60 hospitalised as moving fuel tanker explodes in Majia town of Taura local government area of Jigawa State.
The tragic incident happened on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, around 11 pm, when the tanker’s driver lost control and crashed.
As petrol spilled into the surrounding areas, locals attempted to scoop up the fuel, unaware of the impending danger. Within minutes, the tanker exploded, engulfing the area in flames.
“A devastating petrol tanker with reg no. KMC 6412 F driven by one Yusuf Mohammad 32yrs of Hotoro Quarters, Kano state, exploded in Majia town, Taura local government area, Jigawa State, resulting in the loss of 94 lives and injuring 50 others,” eyewitness source said.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. The injured were rushed to Ringim General Hospital for medical attention.
Jigawa State’s Commissioner of Police, A.T Abdullahi, extended condolences to the people of Majia town and Jigawa State, urging citizens to exercise caution and avoid scenes of petrol tanker accidents, which often result in fatal fires.

“Avoid the scene of any petrol tanker accident as it always results in death by fire.”he said.
